Millanarch Wirehaired Dachshunds

The History of Millanarch Wire Haired Dachshunds

Hi all,

Welcome to our website, where we hope to provide you with a little bit of history and upto date information on our wonderful standard wire haired dachshunds.  Both my husband and I grew up with dogs, terriers, hounds and cross breeds but together in 1986 we brought home Ellagh, a beautiful Irish Wolfhound, as the hound group were a particular favourite of ours.  Obviously Wolfhounds are very different to wire haired dachshunds in many ways!  A few years later we were visiting friends who also owned an Irish Wolfhound and laying beside him next to the fire was this small long-back, short-legged, wire haired brindle dog, which we both fell in love with and knew we wanted a wire from that moment on.

So four children later, in 1994 we bought our first wire, Diggers a brindle boy, pedigree name Merlanrose Midnight, born on July 2nd 1994. We also brought home his sister Pepper a little red girl, pedigree name - Merlanrose Maigold also born on the 2nd, and who was the eldest of the litter of 7 pups.

In 2005 our good friend Yvonne Joslin, the breeder of our first two dachsies, was expecting another litter of wires and thanks to the persuasion of our darling children, we bought our third wire, Archie, another brindle boy, pedigree name - Merlanrose Archie Too - born September 7th 2005.

Even with three beds around the house - you'll always find them squished together in one! :)

Unfortunately, our much loved Diggers passed away in his sleep on November 5th 2006 and with a gap on the sofa and a space in their doggy beds we felt that our fourth wire would be a great new addition to the family. Therefore, in early January 2007 we bought home Millie, another wonderful red girl, pedigree name - Tepotis Lets Get Cracking, bred by Elayne Brown - born November 14th 2006.

Sadly, Pepper left us this year on April 9th 2009 and again there is an empty dog bowl and a space in the bed. To everyone's delight though we are (well, Millie is) now expecting puppies in mid October, sired by Archie.:)

Millie quite heavily pregnant with about two weeks to go...

Our dogs have the greatest temperament, laid back, very loving, affectionate, playful and of course in true Dachshund fashion adore their food.  They have their favourite toys, their favourite place on the sofa and their daily rituals, such as playtime before dinner!

With these two gorgeous dachshunds and great personalities, it is evident that their puppies are going to grow up to be as wonderful as their parents.
